Ram Nawami – Birthday of Lord Ram (Shrawan Kumar Story & Narada Story)
April 21, 2021 is the birthday of Lord Ram, a mythical figure in Hindu mythology. Ramayan is an ancient text that features Ram as an incarnation of god Vishnu. The text is about the life of Ram, his wife Sita, and his brother Laxman. When Ravana, the king of Lanka, abducts Sita and keeps her captive, Ram and Laxman fight Ravana and release Sita from his capture. Monkey gods like Hanuman and Sugriv helped Rama and Laxman in the war against Ravana.
This is an ancient story about how Ramayan started:
Ram or Rama was born to Kaushalya and Dasharatha in Ayodhya, the ruler of the Kingdom of Kosala. He was born on the ninth day of the lunar month Chaitra (March–April), the day celebrated as Ram Navami. This year, Ram Navami falls in Baisakh instead of Chaitra. This day also coincides with one of the four Navaratri on the Hindu calendar, in the spring season, namely the Vasantha Navaratri – or Chaite Dashain. Although it is Chaitra Dashain, the day falls in the following months of Baisakh this year.
Ram’s siblings include Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna. He married Sita, a daughter of King Janak of Janakpur. Though born in a royal family, to Dasharatha was the king of Kosala, Ram’s life is described in the Hindu texts as one challenged by unexpected changes such as an exile into impoverished and difficult circumstances, ethical questions and moral dilemmas.
Ram is a part of the solar dynasty of Iksvakus. His mother’s name Kaushalya literally implies that she was from Kosala. The kingdom of Kosala is also mentioned in Buddhist and Jain texts, as one of the sixteen Maha janapadas of ancient India, and as an important center of pilgrimage for Jains and Buddhists. However, there is a scholarly dispute whether the modern Ayodhya is indeed the same as the Ayodhya and Kosala mentioned in the Ramayana and other ancient Indian texts.
The prime minister of Nepal, KP Oli, has claimed that Ayodhya falls in modern day Nepal and he is gearing up to construct a Ram Temple in Thori, Chitwan. The inauguration of the construction of the temple is told to start on the Ram Navami of 2021.
A story from Ramayan about Ram’s father before Ram was born. This story is about Shrawan Kumar, a son who was taking his blind parents to pilgrimage.
